Default new camera

I own a Sony T110 camera. The pictures had become blurred . went to Jessops and they sent the camera away 300 for a new lense. The camera only cost 149 so we are looking for a new camera. one of the features we require is fast shooting. Whilst we were in Alaska we saw a whale and our camera was too slow to take continuous pictures. Can anyone help with choice? mY BUDGET IS UP TO 350

G'day Phil [from another Phil]

I have a Panny FZ35 which via its 'scenes' menu has a hi-speed burst option is 12fps - the 'sacrifice' is that the camera drops to 3mpx to speed up the save-to-card process. From earlier cameras, 3mpx is quite okay for an 8" x 10" or 8" x 12" print providing overall focus & sharpness is still okay

Some months ago, my missus & I were on a whale watching boat cruise off eastern Australia ... during whale breaching-splashes, my Pentax got 4 images over 2 seconds, my missus using the FZ35 got lots of 20-image shoots and she "came home with the bacon" as the old saying goes

While the FX35 has been superceded, you may like to look at current models and look into the 'scenes' menu and give it a try

Hope this helps a bit
Regards, Phil
