Default Friend wants a compact, I know nothing about them.... please help!

I've just had this message from a friend but I'm of no use as only know about dSLRs. Can anyone please give some suggestions?

I was wondering if you could give me some advice! I would like a new camera for christmas. Is there any chance you can give me some ideas of good cameras. I would like one that has a good flash as mine was rubbish in the dark. Also a good quality big screen. Also one that takes really clear bright pictures. Also a normal size!!!!!! My camera is quite old!

I know I might asking too much but is there any chances I could ask for some ideas for under 100, 150 and 200.

OK, so not loads to go on. She will only want it for snaps of her family, dog, holidays etc.

Any problems with a post or thread please use the report button at the bottom left of the post and the team will help sort it out.

Have fun everyone!

See what I'm up to visit my Plymouth Wedding Photography
site or go to my blog.

The Panasonic ZSx series is a good start, Mark. I'd say the Canon S95 but, money-wise it's not in her range.

I agree. Good cameras at a good price. They are sold as the TZ series in the UK.

The Canon SX130 is also in the right price range. These are selling quite cheap
since the SX150 was announced.

I would look at the canon g12 even has a view finder, but it is a lot more expensive, but they may want to go that far

The Sony HX5 is selling at a very reasonable price now(150 ish),the slightly less pocketable Canon SX130 for a bit less. Panasonic's TZ range are always worth a look, though at the higher end of the budget.Canon's A3300 is a decent little snapper for less money than the above as is the Panasonic FS16 and the Sony W520.
Fuji's T200 looks feature laden given it's sub 100 price tag also...

You can get an S95 for 299 if you act quickly.

Otherwise to be honest I'd spend the money on a phone upgrade.
