Probably a better "direct" comparison(specs' wise) would be the P500 v Panny's FZ-150,as they both sport CMOS sensors and have quite similar specs on paper. They also both have an articulating screen(the FZ47 does not),which I personally find invaluable.
Here's the FZ-150- http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Pa...50/index.shtml Here's the P500- http://www.trustedreviews.com/Nikon-...-Camera_review Here's the FZ-47- http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Pa...DMC_FZ47_FZ48/

well that basicly answer my question, price wise Nikon and Panasonic FZ 47 are almost the same $300 , and FZ 150 runs at $500. and for about $60 dollars more I can get CANON REBEL T3 W/18-55 EF-S IS II. which is well above my budget.
Oh and for few dollars more ($350) I can get canon SX 30 IS or SX 40 HS, so now my question is which is better camera.canon or P500. Last edited by mistwalker1006; Dec 3, 2011 at 9:18 PM. |

The Canon SX40HS is a fine camera, especially if you can get it for $350 or thereabouts- lens fringing issues of SX30is have been sorted and a much faster burst mode than the 30is. It also has lower noise at higer iso's and low light- probably the best "bridge" camera in this regard.
Comparing the P500 to the SX40HS- quite similar in spec's,though I would say the Canon's lens is sharper and has overall better IQ.... Here's a fight between the two- http://ps4land.lightshedder.com/2011...-fight-and-iq/ And here's a few pics I took with a SX40HS,all taken at iso 1600 indoors,no flash- http://www.flickr.com/photos/4197640...7628112681238/

Thank you Simon, nice pictures, I can get canon for 360 now
one of the major retailers carry it for that price now but I think I will wait fot Boxing Day sale and I will see which camera fail within my budget, canon SX40HS or panasonic FZ 150, in lst few days I read a tons of reviews and opinions so It was hard to decide, but now I think I know what I want and if one of them will fall within my budget on a boxing day I will get it. Thank you again for clarifying this for me.Regards Greg |

yeah but they dont ship to canada and I cannot get it. So far this camera goes for 499 and that litle too steep for my pocket, so I will have to wait untill Boxing day or somehow make more money if I decide to go for FZ 150. I acctually went to a retailer today and I had both cameras side by side, I played a litle with them and to be honest FZ 150 felt litle bit better in my hands, but just for the feeling i cannot spend almost 150 more

I have a similar dilemma, between P500 and FZ40/45.
Only I am planning to trade in my Pentax K10D, which is excellent. I have it for 4 years and took thousands of superb images. The only thing is, I never had a long zoom, and want badly to shoot birds and other things not-aproachable. I've seen photos taken with FZ40/45. Yes, they look very good. And I've see photos from Nikon. Here is a link to images on Flickr, taken with P500. They are superb! But I think they are adjusted in photo editing software. That's ok. What do you think? http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefcham...7626349529966/ |

Zalts from what I found out abaut different cameras P 500 is excellent camera in par with Canon SX 40 and Panasonic FZ 150 but the biggest problem most people reported is a battery, it hac a sholt live span, again this is not my opinion but from different sources and reviews, and for that reason alone I decided not to go with P 500, Picture quality is excellent and camera is very good and lots of people dont care for longer battery life. Like SIMON 40 said ,and I quote "Probably a better "direct" comparison(specs' wise) would be the P500 v Panny's FZ-150,as they both sport CMOS sensors and have quite similar specs on paper. They also both have an articulating screen(the FZ47 does not"
