Looking to buy one of these ASAP - the price for the FZ200 is steering me in the direction of the Nikon.
We will mainly use camera for kids everyday pics... Thanks - |

Much would depend on what you perceive to be advantageous in your shooting.
The advantages of the Nikon are the very large zoom,a higher resolution screen,GPS and is slightly smaller/lighter. The Panny's strong suits are the fast f/2.8 lens(great for keeping iso settings low at the long end of the zoom or for faster shutter speeds, avoiding blurry shots),has RAW shooting capability, faster autofocus, faster burst modes, more than twice the battery life of the Nikon, much longer available shutter speeds in manual/shutter priority mode, mic socket for movies. I personally think the Panny is the better camera, especially if you're the kind of individual who isn't an "auto" shooter- but for everyday use and general snapshots it's hard to ignore the price of the Nikon- and if you're not a fanatical pixel peeper,or need super fast speed, maybe the P510 would suffice... just get a spare battery...!

Thank you for the advice - I am more of a point and shoot (2 kids - and 1 on the way) - I may purchase the Nikon (Walmart) - since we need a camera ASAP - and maybe order the FZ200 and return what I don't want!
Thank you again - you're always so helpful!!!! |
