Default What I'm looking for

I'm setting up a home studio and want a camera to do portraits with. I want to use a wireless trigger. Would like to branch out into weddings one day so need something I can grow with.

I am open to any suggestions. My budget is around $2,000 for a body and lens to start with.

I'd say get a Nikon D7100 body (~$1147) with an MB-D15 Multi Battery Power Pack / Grip (~$237) and a Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX ED (VR) (~$597). Spend the rest on extra batteries, chargers, and memory cards. With an appropriate on-camera flash, this would also work well for weddings and other events.

This looks like a great choice. Are the kit lenses any good or would it be better just to buy the body?

Buy the 'body only' plus the 16-85. That lens does everything the kit lens does, and does it better.
