Default Simple P&S for travel

A friend has asked me to select a camera for her, mainly for her upcoming trip.

I'm her computer tech, so I know her general capabilities with tech and what she'll need and will never use.

I'm a big fan/long-time user of the Panasonic Lumix ZS-7. That's my every day all-purpose camera that I carry with me. So I am partial to Panasonic.

I'd like to get her something simple in the $300-350 range.

I'm considering the Panasonic DMC-TZ70 (Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 in the US).

Would this be a safe bet?

I have several mid range P&S cameras, but the one my wife likes best is the one with the touch sensitive screen. It's easier for her to understand what she's doing than having to move around the screen with some half-fast joystick.

Thanks, TCav. I'll have to look around with that in mind, but a cursory check at B&H seems to show that a touch screen puts her way over her budget.

I went to B&H today and confirmed that a touch screen would drive the price up, way above my friend's budget, which is ~$300.

For her purposes the Canon PowerShot SX710 HS looks like the best bet.

Anyone have any experience with that one?
