Could anyone tell me which camera is better, picture quality wise? I want to have sharp images with low noise and high color contrast. Do you know which of the two cameras performs the best on these departments?

I can't tell you which manufacturer's color you will like the best, but I can refer to some sites to see the differences...

Here is the colors of the P93(I assume its the same as P73) since he did tested the P73 http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/con...era-Review.htm

Here is for the A85 http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/con...ra-Review-.htm

This site(digitalcamerainfo) is good for certain things, showing the results of Imatest, but lacks on certain things...

Now that you see how each color are different from both cameras, have a look at what it does to pictures. On this site you will see many pictures taken by different people, consider only the best 1 third of the pictures to judge: http://www.pbase.com/cameras

Now, my impressions, the A85 offers full manual controls, something which i doubt the Sony offers, even tho it probably offers a few of them. Sony is more compact and has unlimitted video mode which may be interesting for you. I'd say that both cameras offer pretty good results. Sony is known for using quite a bit of noise reduction; whereas, Canon only uses a few(only for long exposures, i think).
