I have been researching cameras the past few weeks and have still not been able to make a decision. I am looking for the following criteria:
  • Ultra Compact[/*]
  • 1.8" or greater LCD[/*]
  • Good Battery Life[/*]
  • 4-5 MP[/*]
  • Durable[/*]
  • Easy-to-Use[/*]
  • Practical
I will beusing it for the following kinds of shots:
  • Social settings (bars, beaches, clubs)[/*]
  • Around the house[/*]
  • Outdoor scenes (with and without people)[/*]
  • etc.
I am22 years-old and have never really had much experience with Photography. I am just looking for a camera totake out with me at night and if I ever go ona road trip or sight-seeing.

I havebeen interested in the following cameras, but am not limited to:
  • Nikon CoolPix 4600[/*]
  • Pentax Optio S5i[/*]
  • Canon SD300[/*]
  • Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T1
I would like some feedback, suggestions, and general help regarding a decision on cameras. I am looking to spend less than $400.

Thanks a lot for your input!

I don't know these cameras you mentioned, but I know the Sony DSC W1 (which is now replaced by the W5/W7).

It's not that compact, but it has a decent size to carry around.
2,5" LCD, Batterylife of about 250 shots (with LCD on), 5MP (the W7 has 7MP), very easy to use (has a wheel on top to pick the settings).
I'm impressed by this camera. But it might not be that slim...
The price is somewhat around 300-350$
