I am replacing an old Kodak DC240 because I need higher resolution so I can do more in Photoshop. I just started looking, and the more reviews I read, the more confused I feel. I have ruled out SLRs, but that is about it so far.

I expect to use the camera mostly outdoors on landcape/nature shots. While I expect to use autofocus most of the time, I like the idea of getting a camera that could grow with me as I get more into photography.

Based on the reviews I have read, it looks like the Canon PowerShot G6 would be tough to beat. However, I suspect that this would also be a bit more camera than I really need. I would greatly appreciate any guidance about where to start.
