I have had a Coolpix 5700 for the last couple of years.

The features I find annoying are the time it takes to focus and write to disc, the lack of clarity with the viewfinder but mostly photos of small subjects out of focus. When taking photos of birds, it is usually the background that is in focus.

I had a manual SLR before the CP5700 but bought the CP5700 mainly because I could not justify the cost of a digital SLR + the lenses and it seemed a good compromise.

What I want is a digital camera with a good viewfinder and an easy to use manual focus. (The 5700 has one but I have found it almost unusable.) I also wantat least if not a better zoom as the 5700.

Does a digital camera exist where you can quickly focus using the lens like an old SLR or a dedicated dial so you don't have to go through menus and guess distances.

Should I now be looking at getting an SLR now they have come down in price? I do miss my selection of lenses but don't miss carrying around so much gear!

Kodak's new P880 would be a good choice if you can wait until it arrives.
