Are the Pentax WP and WPi the only small waterproof cameras available?

Has anyone heard if any other companies have plans on making one?

The Pentax cameras have recewived the best reviews and are the most popular. Sony made the U-series, but it was limited to a depth of 5 feet. Do you have some exact lequirements in mind like scuba diving? Scuba stuff most of the time requires watertight cases, flashes and color correction.

Perhaps not exactly on-topic, but there are many digital camera-specific (by the specific camera company, such as Sony for Sony cameras) and fairly inexpensive waterproof housings good from about 130 feet to several hundred feet.

For example, I use a Sonyhousing(for my DSC P10) I purchased forabout $75 on line early last year directly from Japan... came with extra o-rings, o-ring grease, straps, etc. Photos are outstanding.

Granted, it is far more convenient to use an "everywhere-in-one" anywhere or everywhere (like myancient film workhorse the Nikonos) but so many of them are very expensive.

If you select the Camera Reviews Menu Choice from the main page at http://www.steves-digicams.com, you'll see a menu titled Weather Proof/UW, where you'll find some (but, not all) of the weather resistant models available (the ones reviewed here will be listed).

As Sarah Joyce mentioned, these are not all designed to be used Underwater (and those that are may be limited to a specific depth).

You can also find waterproof housings designed for many camera models, as mentioned byhgernhardtjr.

You can also find camera model specific and generic enclosures (including waterproof "plastic bag" type)for many other cameras from manufacturers like Ewa Marine (and there are many more).

Thanks for the replies.

I would not be using it for diving. I do some hiking in the Southern Utah canyons, which requires a lot of time crossing or hiking in the water. I did not want to risk submerging my SD500 , so I kept it inside 2 ziplock bags most the time. I missed out on a lot of photo ops.

I like the size of the Pentax WP(i). Looks like that is the only choice for now.
