I am planning to go backpacking next year to Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and NZ. I'm looking for a good digital camera for this purpose. I'm hoping to find a camera with:

1) Minimum 5 MP
2) Good Macro
3) Good shutter speed
4) My budget is $500cdn

I've been considering cameras that are 'weatherproof' or 'splashproof' because I will be in Asia during the rainy season... and just concerned about the camera's ability to handle certain weather/climate.

My other concern is regarding batteries. I've been asking around and some people say rechargeable AA batteries are the way to go. I've also heard that the Lithium batteries last longer on each charge. So, I'm not sure which one is better for my purpose...

So far, I've been looking at these cameras:

Olympus Stylus 500, 600 and the 800
Nikon Coolpix 7900 and 7600
Nikon Coolpix S2

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have! Thanks very much in advance
