We have a DiMAGE Xt which we like pretty well, except that it's been dropped a few times, the lens window doesn't stay open, the batteries are shot, etc.

So, looking for a replacement with these features:
  • Rapid start (no waiting)
Quick focus time, even in low light
    Pocket size
    3-4 MP image
    Optical zoom

Things that would be nice to have include:
  • A charging cradle, rather than a plug w/minibrick.
    Optical view and LCD screen
    Bigger LCD
SD media (so we can re-use what we've got)
No software requirements (plug and play w/iPhoto or Picasa)

Any suggestions appreciated!

I don't usually recommend Kodak cameras, but the Kodak LS743 might fill your needs.

The Fuji Z1 is smaller and has higher resolution (5 mp vs 4 mp) and is a much better camera. It's quite a bit more expensive than the Kodak and it uses Fuji's xD Picture Cards, but in the long run, it's probably worth the extra cost. Unfortunately, it has no optical viewfinder, but that seems to be the trend with these tiny cameras.
