Chiapas, Mexico.

After much reading of reviews, forums etc I have decided to buy either Canon S2 IS Panasonic FZ 20 or FZ 7 . I can't afford a digital slr and lensesyet.

I will need camera for wildlife (otters), most images will be taken in sunlight or in the shadein a river canyon although a few images will be taken at dusk, dawn or even at night.

Which camera is the best regarding image quality?

Does anyone know if I can use a long shutter release with the canon or panansonic cameras?

Image quality is important ( most prints max 8 X 10 )

Does the canon orpanasonicresist slight waterfall spray/ slight water splashing or can I get housing for these cameras?

Another option is waiting for FZ7,possible good movie mode as in the canon, and maybe better images.

Thanks for your advice

Muchas gracias!

Did you post this a while ago.. Exact same question?

Regardless.. I have the S2.. Love it to bits..

There is an ocean kyak guy on here.. Two or three guys at their resort have the S2.. so I'm assuming it can at least take a tiny bit of water.. I know they also use the waterproof housing.. how much I don't know. And yes there is obviously one available.

The movie mode on the S2 is incredible. File sizes are large.. but a 1gig card can hold a LOT.

I don't know much about the Panies. so can't go into them. Overall options, and feel I chose the S2.

You'll have to wait like the rest of us for the FZ7 reviews. The FZ20 does allow for a remote release. Good luck.

The FZ20 is about a half-stop faster at full zoom than the others. That might make a difference in limited light. You can also get a zoom flash unit for the FZ20 that will reach out nearly 80 feet if you can get that close to the otters. Of course you need a way to frame the shots since you can't see through the viewfinder or LCD when using the flash in low light.
