My son is being called up this summer and is off to Iraq in September. I want to give him a camera. What should I get?

  • Can he recharge batteries over there or should I get a camera that handles AA batteries?[/*]
  • Should I get a "weatherized" camera to seal out sand, etc?[/*]
  • How hard is it to send pictures to/from soldiers there?[/*]

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question, but:

Good luck and Godspeed to your son on his mission. Regardless of anyone's thoughts on the war, his country called and he's answering. My family's prayers are with him and all those who put country before self.

I would look at the Olympus Stylus line of weatherproof and ruggedized cameras, the new Stylus 720SW is both weatherproof and shock resistant. Soldiers have access to standard AC power to recharge things, get him a spare battery though and a 512MB or 1GB size xD-Picture Card. Soldiers have regular access to the Internet so sending pictures shouldn't be a problem. Here is the link toourcamera review.
