Both are obviously new and I have seen no reviews, but I would like to pre-order (long story on this).

Key needs from me:

At least5 MP

At least 6X optical zoom

Some form of "image stabilization"

Relatively compact size

Both have my keey needs covered. Nikon has the 10x zoom which is nice, but it seems to lack any manual controls around shutter or ISO priority which I would like to experiment with...Does the Canon have these features?

I am alsofamiliar withCanons as I have used one for 4 years, but I have no problem switching.

All thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hard to determine when the 710IS is not yet available, and thus there are no reviews. If you like the Canon brand (as I do) you will most likely be happy with the 710.

OTOH, I've used several Nikon Coolpix cameras and have not enjoyed any of them. Just my opinion, of course.

I guess their isn't a whole lot of new information available on the S10, but do you know what they mean by time lapse video, that is what I saw they called their video. I know time lapse in movies is taking film over a long period of time.
