Default Canon Pixma 9000 MarkII-Opinions and Ink usage?

I took advantage of the Canon offer for this printer and the T1i. After the rebate the printer will cost me about $40. There was a $400 rebate.

My question is on the quality of the prints, have heard that B & W is not that great. And also about the ink usage. With 8 ink cartridges at $15 a piece could get expensive to replace if it is an ink hog.

Or I could sell it on Ebay for a couple hundred bucks-based on recent sales.

Thanks for help,
norma

ps I would use the larger print capabilities.

The 9000 MkII is a great printer. On the plus side, it uses dye ink, which seldom causes clogs. On the minus side, it uses dye ink, which may fade at a faster rate than pigment ink. I have the older 9000, and have been refilling the cartridges for a few years - this saves a lot of $. When I need really archival prints, I send out to a lab for photo process or Giclee prints. The prints made with this printer, IMO, is much better than a machine print from lab. The ink/paper should be profiled (even if OEM).

Default PiXMA 9000

Hello I also just bought the same printer. Could you please tell me which ink do you use? I heard that we have to keep printing regularly to avoid a clog? How frequent is printing needed?
Thanks

I have used Hobbicolors (search eBay) and InkTec but have settled on inks manufactured by Image Specialists. If used infrequently, you should print a color swatch at least once a week.
