Have you set up the head alignment correctly. Try it again. Make sure that you have got the correct number settings. Look at the blocks thro a magnifying glass. Make sure the other settings like dither are correct.

Correctly set up the 9900 produces stunning results.

However, paxadoxically, (i can`t believe I used a long word like that) the HP may give a sharper print. This is because HP mixes the ink to produce the color before applying it to the paper. Other printers set down separate drops to create the illusion of color.

Finally you should be aware that judges in photo competitions regularly throw out digital images as being oversharpened.
