Thanx, all!!! It's really strange about the shots being a bit too "hot"!!! Here at home the last one is a bit too hot but, the others just the highlights are a bit too bright. At work with a monitor that is generally darker, the pics look brighter than at home. I'll have to paly around with the edits as they are all saved as adjustment layers and can be changed very easily.

edit: Squirl, I was between 35 to 60 feet away from the heron. I used my 500mm with 1.4X TC. Most are about 95% full frame. Somewere also handheld.

500mm with a 1.4 TC... 700mm, at the 1.6 crop for the 20D, that's effectively an 1120mm lens! that explains how you could get those shots!

i actually have some that are even closer, where i had to back offmy 80-400 to about 280mmin order to get the composition i wanted (head and shoulders of the bird). he was fishing in some reeds about 15-20 feet away, and didn't seem to mind the three photographers snapping away from the boardwalk... :G

Denis,Denis, Denis. My goodness what a series. You did just as good as the Heron did. He ate the whole thing and you got the whole thing. Wonderful.
