Showed up after a recent north-eastern but Norfolk Va seems a long way from home for either of those type woodpeckers. I.D. anyone ?

Not a bad shot, I do believe its a Northern Flicker. I have recently seens quite a few of these guys around the woods by my house, but have yet to get a decent shot, since they seem to be very shy.



Anyway, great shot, wish the lighting conditions were a little better for ya.

It was overcast and early in the day when this shot was taken. I just glanced up and saw him at the top of the telephone pole and got offr a quick shot before he zipped away. I am just suprised to see him at all as the norm is Downy and Hairy woodies in my area.
