I've checked both my bird books, and can't find this fellow (gal?) in either one. Any ideas? Where the heck are you Dave??!!

I agree with VP ...just bought a new NatGeo field guide the other day & the 2nd shot looks almost identical to the illustration for a Gadwall male. BTW, very nice shots, Don!

Thanks guys. That one isn't listed in my book. The bird ID books I have are for the Vancouver area. I obviously need a better publication. Any ideas on which would be the best for all birds-particularly North American? By the way, what happened to Dave? Haven't seen anything posted by him for ages. Hope he's ok........cheers.......Don.

He's hanging out at DPReview, Don, using his dog's name as a pseudonym - yeh, his "presence" is missed !!

Thanks Jake. Can't remember his dog's pseudonym. Another fellow who used to frequent this forum was Normcar. Outstanding photographer, but guess he's moved on too. It's too bad, as he was one of my favorites......cheers...Don.

Funny that you guys should mention DBB "Dave" as I also had a problem ID'ing that same duck a while back and he was able to provide it for me.
The black rear section and bill was the key as I was thinking it was a Widgen.

Bt the way I would recommend The Sibley guide to birds as an excellent reference for birds...

Chato is Dave's dog's name - Norm went on to Fredmiranda's site. But hey, we're still here :G:G:G
