Went to see if I could find any Bald Eagles early this morning, have been waiting for them to show up. I saw several so that was pretty encouraging but alla little far out. This pair was perchedon these dead trees a good distance out in the lake.

Nice shot VP, I also ran across two eagles this weekend. I have lots ofshots of them in the air and hitting the water but way tofar away. Wish I could afford one of those 600mmf4 lenses!!

Kent...I know what you mean about needing more reach. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the 500 F4 with the IS. I'm trying to find a way to justify it :-)

Do you have Eagles that winter over there?

Have you guys read about the Sigma 300-800/5.6. Very sharp lens with a lot more reach for the same dough as the 500 F/4 IS. Doesn't have IS, but at that focal length I think it's going to have a tripod glued to it. A friend of mine has one and it's got very fast auto focus, too.

I have briefly looked at it Bob. If I had one of those I would have to changemy whole style of doing things, maybe even with the 500 F4. Most of the time tripods are just not feasible for trying to catch something happening now or fast moving little birdies.

Iknow you know that already, but I felt like my next purchase would be something stabilized so I could be more mobile. My copy of the 400 5.6 just almost requires a tripod anyway. I need a different plan.
