This Bittern has been in the same spot fishing the last four times I have been to the refuge. Must be his favorite fishing hole.

Good shot in what looks like tough backlighting Steve. Almost looks like a small heron....cheers....Don

nice work, Steve! looks a lot loke some shots i got this past summer of a bittern down at the local park... also backlit, and pretty close.

Don, the bitterns are members of the heron family, like green herons, black-crowned night herons, etc. just not "called" a heron... don't ask me why! :?

As a matter of fact they are so irritated by not being assigned the heron name they have become downright "bittern angry". Just look at the expression on his face. That says it all.
Ah, my new year is starting off just like the last one. Watch out everyone. :lol:
