About the only water that wasn't frozen solid was this irrigation canal. I caught this little male Bufflehead swimming toward me. The Sun was really doing a number on his feathers. It looks like a paint by numbers painting gone wrong.:G

I really like this photo. I never have seen one of them before but I would like to see one.

They are the cutest little diving ducks. About the size of a pigeon and just full of attitude.

very nicely done, Steve... excellent captures! the second one is superb. we have buffles up here, but i have yet to catch one close enough in the right light.even if they come close enough - which is rare - the little stinkers always go bottoms up just as i'm about to snap the shutter... :angry:

Rocky, I want you to know that my experience with Buffleheads has, up to now, been exactly the same as yours. I betI have deleted at least 50 pics of buffle butts, or empty rings of water were they had just been...:G
