DPP is the Canon software that came with your 30D.I can't use parts of it due I think, to limited memory (same for PS). It doesok for what it is and it is easy to convert your RAW images. Install it and try a few and see what you think.

All the picture styles are there so you can choose one or a combination to getfairly much the effect you want. And does much better, I think, thanchoosing them in camera.

okay, I took a pic in raw, and converted in canon and sent it to my dng raw file, it was stored as a TIFF file, rather large, so I converted to jpeg. I also tweaked it in 4.0. Do I need to adjust the images in canon or adobe...

I need a workflow. The camera is set on RAW/LG file...the parameters are on default except for sharpness...I take the pic...upload it with canon...I see two images one raw, one not. Do I convert then an there and send to adobe or convert, tweak, and then send to adobe...........DONNA

You might try both.....convert with DPP or send to elements to convert. I convert with DPP (I tweak first then convert, except for sharpness if you will use NR)Since you are familiar withElements, you may have better success using it for all PP. You could try basic PP withDPP to see how you like it. I find that if I did a decent job on camera settings, composition, etc; I can get decent results with DPP. Beyond that it might take PS skills to save an image that may be hard to get again.

Yes, you will have the RAW and a JPEG (reason you will be able to take fewer images on CF)......the JPEG is what you will see on your LCD as it does not display RAW image.

Hi Donna,

Love the two shots.

I shoot Nikon and all RAW... once you get use to shooting and dealing with RAW format images you will never go back. The flexibility to correct items and use data that is discarded by the camera when letting in camera processing do the pictures will amaze you.

It is a learning curve. I would recommend using the Cannon software to convert RAW to DNG or to TIFF format. You may want to adjust levels and contrast here then move the file to PSE 4. This is how I handle my shots but use the Nikon software in place of the Cannon.

I have found that the RAW converter from the camera manufacturer gives me better color rendition with their cameras than using Adobe.

If my noise reduction and sharpening software would run inside NikonNX then I would get rid of Adobe Elements but that is not the case.

Just my experience.

Happy shooting!

Bill
