I have been trying a long time to catch one of these in flight. I managed to get this shot today, not as sharp as I would have liked it, but better than the no shots I had before.

Ilike the composition on this Jake,the vegetation at the bottom helps set the bird off. That is a fancy tailed bird! Looks like it has the Red shoulder patches like our Red-winged Blackbirds.

Man if I had something like that flying around in my area you would have to pry the camera out of my hands to get me to go to work. I agree with VP that he looks similar to our RW blackbird because of the red shoulder patches but I wonder what his back looks like. Does it have lots of red or is it just a patch. Oh would I like to get chance at one of them.:lol:

Thanks guys !! They are very similar to your redwings, the beak not as sharp as the redwing's, their winter plumage is very drab, brownish with a little red in the shoulder, but the summer plumage is quite magnificentas seen here. I'll post a few others a little later this afternoon. :-)

Wow Jake! What an odd looking bird with that spectacular tail. Truly a rare looking species. I think you did a great job on this....cheers.......Don
