Default sunset flight

I'll leave you with this one before I go on a week vacation. See ya all later!

It was a pure opportunity shot. I saw it, and took three pictures without even thinking. They were the best of the day.

This isn't the usual rule-of-thirds composition, but I wanted to get that cloud in the lower right. It added a bit of color and contrast to the background and without it, the picture just looked... well, less interesting. Weird.

Feel free to reedit and post this if you want. I tried raising the brightness (it looks a bit dull to me) but that blew out the red background. I tried recovering that with the red channel, but that didn't help... I just couldn't get it to something I liked.

Camera: 10D 100-400L @ 400, 1/1000th, f5.6, ISO 400
Neat Image to remove noise.
PS: sharpen, crop, clone away some lens dust, adjust levels and contrast, reduce and save for web.

Sorry Eric, didn't see this post before now.
Very mysterious. It's too bad we couldn't see more detail in the heron but at the same time I think it makes the shot interesting.

I was kinda getting a little sad that no one said anything about it while I was on vacation. sniff... sniff.

Thanks for the comment.

There are actually some details in the heron that can be brought out with photoshop, but it makes the bird look washed out. I like it with the darkness, but I wish the red could be raised more. The actual color of the sky wasn't that murky reddish brown... it was actually a nice, bright red. But my PS skills just weren't up to it.

I've saved the original, so I can always redo it when my PS skills get better.
