one of these days i suppose i'll have to break down and buy a flash unit... but i use flash so seldom (i prefer natural light and almost never take photos indoors), that it's hard to justify the expense...

A very nice photo of a squirrel here. I guess I will have to break down and try some captures of them also. There are dozens of them around my house and running around and up and down the trees all the time. Very cute little things aren't they. Again, a really good job on this one.

I thought so too, but ended up using the flash outdoors for many things, like when the sun is in the background and you need to light upyour subject a bit, this where a good flash unit comes in handy. Or when it´s cloudy or late afternoon and you need a touch of additional light for a subject that is not that close.

The internal flash has many shortcomings like it doesn't fill far or wide enough, and you keep getting that red eye problem in your subjects, and you cannot use a diffuser or change the direction the flashlight is coming from, etc.

I feel it was a good investment.
