Where are the Beaver??

A question asked many times by my family and I over the years. Living on Beaver Pond and seeing countless dams torn down to only be rebuilt again. Not once laying eyes on one of these critters. Until today.

Thanks for looking

Jeff

Beaver Pond? Looks more like On Golden Pond! There is talk about having beavers in Scotland I think, but not sure.

Nice shot, are you sure that isn't a Muskrat instead of a Beaver.

This one got caught out in the open. I have never seen a live one in the daytime, only nutria, muskrats. I have stepped into a couple of their "houses" where they had the bank undercut.

Where are the Muskrat??

My bad.

Living on Beaver Pond, dams and trees looking like Beavers cut them down.

I ASSUMED they were Beavers.

I am not sure what going on with them but I saw several today in different areas. Spring must be in the air.

Thanks for looking

Jeff just my opinion and I could be wrong, but the tail and thr position it is in while swimming and also the ears make me think it is a muskrat. Nice capture I have been trying for a while to get a photo of one of them at a ranch pond I pass pretty regular and so far the score is Roger = 0 Muskrat = +12 minimun

TOTALLY WACKY roger

Wow, I just made the exact same mistake myself. A took a few photos yesterday that I thought were of a beaver based on similar assumptions.

Probably 6 or 7 years ago there was a rainstorm that formed a small pond in a section of local woodland that I frequent. Normally it would have gone away over time, but it got dammed up by what I assume had to be beavers (which I don't think we used to have around here). Now it seems to be a permanent, tiny piece of wetland where I enjoy looking at geese, ducks and dragonflies and listening to bullfrogs (which I don't think we used to have). At least I'm assuming they're bullfrogs... I don't know what else could make such a loud, weird noise and remain invisible.

Anyway, I guess I should have known it wasn't a beaver by the tail, but having never seen a beaver up close I thought maybe they turned their tail sideways when they swim. Now I realize that was as dumb as it sounded.

Here is a beaver from a local pond. You can see the difference in the profile of the head, plus the beaver is much larger by comparison.

Thanks for the Beaver shot Tom.

I am glad we have such a knowledgeable group here, much can be learned.

Thanks again

Jeff
