I was tracking this Red Tail with my Sigma 170-500mm handheld when it landed 10 foot away. It may be me, but I am still not very imprested with this lens.

Nice shots !!. I would also say that the lens is on the softside. Maybe try stopping down to f8, and see if that helps.

That's a good snake catching Redtail! I guess it landed just to catch the snake?

I have no experience with that lens but the comments I have seen about itare similar to yours.

Cool capture of the snake for lunch. I have heard the same comments about that lens.

The lens may be a bit soft, but then so are birds and some times the over sharp images of bird feathers don't look real, just real sharp.

How fun to have the Hawk land so close.

The Sigma was sold and I bought a Nikon 70 300 VR all in one day. I do love EBay.

I will see what I get next weekend with the VR lens.
