Caught this fellow out for a swim. Water was brilliant green....I assume from algae in water coupled with exceptionally bright sun.

Definately not a ring-necked duck. Looks like a purple gallinule or a common moorhen. It's hard to tell because there is little color to it. If it had a grenish back and apurplish neck, then it's the gallinule. Also the color of the bill (looks white to me) puts it as a coot but, the neck seems too long. my guess is the gallinule.

Thanks for the ID help. The shot was taken at a nature preserve, and one of their publications lists all the birds that have been ID'd on the grounds. The coot has been seen here, but usually in Fall or Winter. The gallinrule has never been identified there.

I've put in a second shot and done no editing on it other thana simple crop. The water truly IS that green. You can see from this one that the bill is clearly white.
