Default Please review this testshot with extender setup (plain bird)

Shot today in rather dull weather.
Setup:
10D Canon
Sigma 70-210 f2.8 APO
Soligor extender 2x

Because alot of people claim the 2x extenders are bad I was pleasently surprised with the results taking in account the weather (no sun) and the rather dull looking subject.

What's your idea ?

Greetings,
Frank

What, if anything, is done in post processing?

The picture is clearly overexposed.

The feathers are a bit soft, but less than I'd expect from a 2x extender.

The background has a very appealing defocused nature (boken. How do you spell that word?!)

The tail is out of focus, but that could just be DOF.

There is blooming (CA) around the bottom of the bird (bluish) and around the back of the wing (where it is greenish.) It's also noticable at the end-edges of tail. But there isn't any around the head & neck (where focus is best.)

That lens is capable of much better without a TC (from what I've been told, I haven't used it.)

It would be interesting to take two pictures at the same MM, one with the TC and one without.

Hi,

Done afterwards:

Raw processing.
Midtone sharpening setting 280, that's rather normal.
A bit of curves to get the lower tones up.

The picture is a bit blown out by the bread, I know that, I made an error with the curves, on the original that's ok.

The chroma abberation also caught my eye and is without the TC gone.

The DOF is a problem, the lens is stuck in 2.8 for the moment, I have to send it in for rechipping.

Greetings,
Frank

Hi Frank...

I like your effort

Great expression on the bird's face along with
capturing its vivid coloration!
