I didn't know their feathers had a yellowish tinge when they were young.

I didn't either (they are not around here), but young birds commonly have ways to tell others that they are young so that their inexperienced social gaffes don't provoke hostile reactons from their elders. On the other hand, we sometimes see Mockingbirds with yellow faces in Spring from poking theirheads into Bird-of-paradise flowers after nectar and getting smeared with yellow pollen! Were there other siblingsaround?

Thanks everyone for looking and commenting. I saw one group of three and another group of two. Luckily the clouds parted for a few minutes - these were the best from the day.
