Hi Mr. G!

Nice shot - but not of your regular standard, I'm afraid.

Kevin - I have you ask you this. I'm considering buying (among others) that lens your'e using. The 80-400 VR. But I've read lots of places, that the AF is veryyyy slow. What's your opinion on that. You shoot lots of birds - moving. What do ya think ? Worth the money ?
I'm also thinking of the 70-200 VR, which got a nice F.stop and should have a fast AF. Any experiences with that one ?

best
regards
Klaus

Nice to have to you back, Kevin.
Glad to see someone is getting pictures of doves
Seriously, I was at my mom's a couple of days ago and tried to get some shots of the doves teaching their young to fly. I tried and tried but I guess, it just wasn't my lucky day.

Hi Klaus, you're absolutely right about the shot but I thought it was a pretty good accomplishment to get it with a 60 mm lens
The 80-400 does have a slower focus but if you make use of the focus limiter swithc it isn't that bad. I used the 70-200Vr briefly on the Catskills trip. Focus is fast but it doesn't have the reach I need. Now with that said, the VR (on the 80-400 at least) needs a second or so to kick in and settle down before you shoot. You just can't see something and fire a few off.

Hi Tracey, I've been very busy running off prints and doing the pet shots. Hopefully things will calm down now.
