I was fishing with a friend yesterday and drifted past this heron; standing dead still, blending in with the surroundings, waiting for an unsuspecting meal to swim by. We got very closewhichI find somewhat unusual. There seems to be an abundance of herons up here in northern Wisconsin.

It's not uncommon to observe herons out in the open as well such as this guy in the photo. He later swooped down on a small dead bass floating on the surface;apparently they will take a good meal any way they can get it.

Eagle-eye on your part finding #1! :O

I really like this shot - it's enjoyable to see the animal in the context of his habitat, rather than so tight in the shot you have no idea where he is.
