Bushtits are tiny birds that are in constant motion - I've been trying for weeksto get one of the little buggers sitting still long enough out in the openfor me to evenget itin my viewfinder. They move in a group through the vegetation gleaning insects, and the only time you eversee them is flying between bushes. Otherwise you just see the leaves moving. My wife calls them "The Aphid Patrol."

good catch penolta. their nondiscript coloring would make them tough to spot in amongst the foliage.

The eye position in the first photo intrigued me, so I worked on a couple of other less satisfactory shotsthat had head on views in which the eyes were in shadow, until I got useable images. The eyes have to converge to judge depth perception at a very short distance tograb their tiny prey.

Some motion blur and/or shallower DOF in this one. The poorest of the lot. but it gives a better indication of the head shapethan no. 1, in which the head is tilted away from the camera (the neck is bent sideways, which is why the neck feathers are spread apart).
