Looks like a Sandhill Crane.

I second that being a Sandhill Crane (Greater). Was that in the wild in north Tx?

DANG! How'd you get so close. I can never get any closer than 150 yards before they scatter. There are hundreds around here right now. They come in to feed on the left over rice stubble after the harvest. They will be moving on in another couple of weeks. I'll have to head out and see if I can luck into a shot of one in close.
That is a gorgeous portrait of a Sandhill. I am green with envy.
Nice work,
Steve

Oops. Mislabeled this one. Iknew it was a crane, not a duck. I didn't intend to mislead you; it's in a zoo, and quite familiar with people.

Sorry if I did mislead you. I've enjoyed shots you get from those birds out in the wild, and I admire the way you do get in close. I've managed to get close to some herons and egrets, but nothing like the ones you get.

BTW, I know a guy who does observe cranes, and he uses a blind and a lot of patience. He says it works.
