Default Scrub Jay close portrait

This is a 50% resize and crop, 300mm f/4 @ 1/640, f/4. Needless to say I was pretty close to the little fella, shooting through a zillion tree branches...

Nice and up close, the feather detail is impressive.

Default Thanks Brooks

I don't think I could get too much closer... he was beginning to give me the eye. The only reason he didn't fly was that he was sheltered inside the tree. I couldn't even get the entire bird in the frame -- it was that close.

I sort of wish I had taken the shot at ISO 200 instead of 400 -- I would have had enough shutter speed, and the noise in this shot would have been nil-- if I run Neat Image it doesn't look quite right anymore (too smooth, no matter what I do, because there isn't enough solid-color shadow to analyze). Oh well...
