A species only common to the SW portion of the country. I was happy to get this guy while in La Jolla, CA recently. I was actually photographing shorebirds when this guy kept doing loops catching bugs and would always return to the same rock perch.... I decided he made an easy target and went and set up... a little patience and tada.

This simple little creature is one of my favorite birds primarily because of it's elegant simplicity and lines, especially in the head area. I was pleased to see that you captured one and you certainly didn't disappoint my visual taste buds, Mike. Your background compliments the photo wonderfully and that nice little sheen in the eyeball compliments those wonderful head lines.

Very nice shot Mike. Got a good expression going. Looks almost cocky!
