This morning, I witnessed a first for me....a battle-royal for possession of a stand of pines at the top of a ridge 100 yards or so behind my house. On one side....

He was joined by a juvenile

On the other side was a flock of about 20-25 crows. The crows had the juvenile trapped in the top of a pine, but help was soon on the way

For about 20 minutes, the birds flashed back and forth screaming at the top of their lungs

I'd like to report that the annoying crows were routed from the field, but the outcome was just the opposite as the crows drove away first the adult, then the juvenile.

As you can tell from the shots, a dreary, hazy morning. All shots with K10d and Phoenix 100-400.

nice action shots, but a lot of purple fringing... i suspect that Phoenix 100-400 isn't nearly up to the level of your K10D...

Guilty as charged. The Phoenix is a poor man's substitute till I can afford a Bigma or similar long lens. It does reasonably well in many lighting conditions, but shooting into a dreary sky brings out the worst in fringing with it.
