Wild Horses (Colts) 9 photos

A very long and physically difficult day. Very heavy wind and lots & lots of dust and a much longer hike than I had planned.

For anybody that missed the plan for the wild horse colt hunt here is a link.

Everything went according to plan and the horses managed to fool me, what did show up was 2 different bachelors not the herd with the colt that I was looking for. These plus some herd photos later.

I was able to find some colts among the 4 different herds I found. As you are going to see this has been a hard year on the horses lots of snow and ice this winter and then no moisture for grass this spring. They are working real hard looking for food. The most grass is in the bottom of the canyons so you have to be willing to work to get to them. The bunch grass under the sagebrush is about the only grass I found that is not dried out.

My favorite colt of the bunch I named him "left behind" He was always trying to keep up with mom and the herd.

One of the times he caught up. He looks tired from all his running.
