Great series! That nest entrance is more round than some I've made. Where do those birds get their hole saws? :lol:

cool shots and documentation as always penolta. i too am impressed by how clean the smooth the entrance hole to the nest is. did the woody do that or was this a man made nest? can't wait to see the little woodies take their first flight.

Hung, The hole is their own work (the cavity inside is as much as 10" deep,so it couldnt be man made) -- woodpeckers make smooth holes, otherwise their feathers would be damaged as theysqueeze in and out The holes are no larger than necessary, to keep out larger predators and competing hole nesters that do not make their own cavities.
