no, he's not worn and faded. the sun was shining on him from behind me . . . and i may have adjusted the exposure a little too much trying to pop the detail. he does look faded on my work monitor.

he is actually moulting or has just moulted because when i get a pic of him wet, you can see the gaps in his feathers. i would guess that he just moulted since they drop their feathers all at once and he looks more filled in than the last time i saw him.


regardless of how i snapped him, i think he is a beautiful bird . . . and i am pleased that he feels so comfortable with me snapping away so closely.

that stump is one of his feather-drying places. it is more convenient for him than holding onto tree branches.
