This photo was taken at230 mm, F 7.1, 1/1000th,ISO 200 and edited ever so slightly.

My EXIF data says the35 mm focal length is 345 mm. Can someone explain the difference? Thanks for looking and thanks for any help.

The smaller APS sized digital sensor requires a 1.5X conversion, as the image does not cover the same area as the full 35mm frame, so part of the image falls outside of the sensor. 230 + 115 = 345. Your 230mm frame encompasses on a digital SLR what a 345 mm size frame would have shown on an older film camera if the image were enlarged to fill the full 35mm frame..
