Do you know just how hard it is to get photos like this? Not many photos of hummingbirds in the wintertime.
First, it was COLD, 27 degrees out, my hands froze as I couldn't wear gloves as I had to feel the controls on the camera. Took an hour of waiting to get these two shots.
Second: Setting the controls and getting the composition is not easy with the hummingbird as they don't hold still!
• They fly forward, backward, shift sideways, stop in midair.
• They can beat their wings 60 to 200 times per second.
• They can fly up to 60 miles per hour.
So with that in mind, this is probably the best I can do.
This little guy was hungry and was waiting for me to thaw out his feeder with a floodlight.

These two are probably a little better but I couldn't get that red. Sometimes the red shows up and sometimes they don't with these hummingbirds.

HEY!!! How about some feedback? The photo's aren't that bad.

NEWFLASH!
Guess what happened yesterday? I was outside once again trying to get decent shots of Hummer, (yep... I named him) and out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement!!! Miss Hummer was way up in the top part of the patio canopy trying to stay warm. I don't know where she came from but she showed up today with the other one. They were doing somersaults and stuff around the feeder. They were moving so fast I didn't realize what happened until I saw her perching up there. Stayed there a half hour. At least she stays put long enough to get some good shots. She is about half the size of Mr Hummer.

And these are some shots of Mr. Hummer!

Hi Jack55

I like the photo you labelled "probably my best photo" which was listed on weather underground. I saw you had put that in another place here somewhere on Steve's forums too.

The photos you posted at the top of the hummer in flight (#3, 4, 5 & 6) are not as sharp / clear, but nevertheless they are still nice. I appreciate that capturing these birds in flight isn't easy!

Looks COLD out there. Thankfully here in Australia it's lovely and warm (30 degrees celsius plus!) Beach weather... I love it!

Regards

Paul

The last three are a definite improvement - well done.
