Default redwing gettin' ready for an evening on the town...

this redwing male apparently decided some personal hygiene was in order... Canon 40D, 400mm, various speeds at f/8...

bath time...



drying off (fluff cycle!)...



all ready for the ladies now...

These shots throw me right back to my childhood, they were such a common bird in the country areas i grew up in.

we'd even get to see yellow-headed blackbirds from time to time, that was always a treat...

great series!

thanks, Dan... they do bathe in the shallows quite frequently. i've seen both males and females do it, and also forage for insects and the like on logs or branches at the water's edge.

Excellent shots. For the first time, I have been able to shoot these guys this spring....not an easy bird to get the lighting right, and you've nailed it. Well done.
