Default Red Tail Flight

It was quite cold and windy today at the Sacramento NWR. But I managed these shots of a Red-tailed Hawk.

You were on top of your game for these. I pick #2 as my favorite.

A nice series. What kit were you shooting with?

I agree that #2 is the best of the bunch and certainly worth going out in the cold for.

Thanks Mark, This is my wildlife setup. Nikon D300 w/MB10 Batt pak. and a Nikon 200-400mm VR lens mounted on a Nikon 1.4 Teleconverter for f/5.6. It's a very sharp lens and has given me excellent results. I usually use the Kinesis Photo Bean bag drapped over my truck window since I shoot mainly from my vehicle, using it as a blind when at the refuge. It all seems to work pretty well. However, I was using my Wimberly head atop a Gitzo 1325 carbon fiber tripod the day I took these photos of the Red-tail. The Wimberly provides an excellent platform for shooting birds in flight.

Here is a pic of my setup, minus the truck photo blind.
