Default A few yard birds...

Finally had a chance to "sneak up" on a Flicker the other day. One was out on the lawn at our park office - probably eating ants. Found that if I only moved while the head was down, it didn't seem to notice me getting closer...

Also took a few moments at one of the bird feeders to snap a few shots of the hungry "critters," packing away seed before the next snow.

There were plenty of Carolina Wrens and Carolina Chicadees:

There were also plenty of Titmice and Song Sparrows, but only a few (very shy) Towhees...

Hoping for a bit more TN Sunshine soon (for the birds' sake and for mine)! And hope your outdoor wanderings are also full of nature discoveries!

Thanks for any comments/critique.

Mole, these are just gorgeous shots. The first bird, wow, what awesome colours. The other pictures, I don't know... do you offer these critters bird seed or something if they pose for you? You have a really neat way to capture these birds in all their beauty.

Take care, and thaks for the photos.

Ned - Thanks - as always, you are too kind. Yes Flickers to have some amazing colors. And yes, I do "bribe" birds with seed. All but the Flicker shots were taken at the bird feeder. I just sat down just at the limit of the minimum focus distance, and waited for the birds. It helps to watch for a while, and see where they perch as they are waiting for their turn at the feeder. That way I can get photos in a more natural-looking setting, not just at the (rather ugly) bird feeder itself. Note that we have already used over 200 pounds of oil sunflower seed at this one feeder this winter! (pretty expensive bird photos!)

GW - Judging from all your great shots, you are keeping busy! Thanks!
