Default A Wee Beastie- Praying Mantis

I found this little guy on the kitchen window sill. It jumped on to my thumb and was quite content to just hang out there while I snapped away.

Wonderful shots. I once saw a praying mantis when i was in grammar school. It was much much larger. I remember the teacher told us it was a protected insect and not to touch it. We all watched it and then it flew away. That was in the 1940s and i have not seen one since. thanks for the memory.

Thanks Caryl, Being in the city I wouldn't think you would see too many Praying Mantis'. But here in the country (Northern Sac Valley) we get them all the time, much to my wife's dismay. They creep her out. I, on the other hand, love them. They are truly one of the good guys in the insect world.

Cheers, Steve
