Default just a wood duck

this little fellow made an appearance yesterday at Juanita Bay, and ventured in close enough for a decent shot... 40D, 400mm, 1/800 @ f/5.6...

AH Love it ... Looking to find some Mergansers ... for reasons of own family's life... but they seem to come and go to fast!...if we had a button to slow down the subjects... we could capture every thing just perfectly!

yeah, the hoodies - if those are the ones you want - don't seem to stick around long, though i've gotten some very nice, close shots of them in the last couple of years. common mergansers are even less frequent around here... i see them maybe once or twice a year, usually in December or January, or sometimes (rarely) as late as March, but they don't often come in close enough for a good photo. i did get some nice shots of one last year about this time, including a series of him struggling with a catfish half as long as he was. he finally abandoned the effort and went off in search of easier supper.

and what an appearance he made, he obviously knew you would be there and put on his best plummage for the shot - absolutely gorgeous
